An experienced Innovator, R+D Advisor and national Consultant for XR in health and social care
I have created, implemented and lead on numerous XR based projects, including the nationally recognised HEE sponsored VR Lab. I am the co-lead of the parliamentary award nominated Digital Futures program at TSDFT in the NHS.
I advise and consult as an SME on a number of significant XR research and adoption programmes across healthcare as well as support digital strategy and transformation.

Since 2015, at the forefront of Immersive Technology in Health.
I have been privileged in helping pioneer the use of XR with patient and staff groups in the NHS and have seen (as well as documented in national papers and best practice guidance) the influence and change these technologies can make, when used right.

HoloLens 2 Remote Consultations
National Pilots for HoloLens 2.
I was the technical lead at TSDFT for the piloting of the Microsoft HoloLens 2, as part of a programme supported by NHS Digital. This was a novel innovation to adopt and evaluate the technology into a clinical pathway, supported by a fantastic team.
The two applications of the HoloLens currently being trialled are for remote enabled consultations in the breast care unit (as part of nurse clinics) and with MS patients in the community (supporting remote patient review and gait analysis).

Contributing to National Reports
Chapter Author and Contributor
My work and insights have been shared and published in a number of national reports and frameworks concerning digital health, XR technologies and Simulation. Our work at Torbay was featured as a case example in the Growing Value of XR report and my team wrote the chapter for Patient Experience in Education. The Growing Value of XR in Healthcare report has been created in response to the pressing need to have access to more accurate and representative intelligence and market data to help inform emerging strategies and priorities within the public and private sector in the UK. XR refers to Extended Reality and covers Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR), haptics, interfaces, platforms and software and will often be referred to as immersive technologies within the context of this report. The healthcare sector referred to covers health and social care in public and private services, in clinical and non-clinical settings. specimen book.PatientVR
Patient Perspective VR
I created and founded PatientVR in 2015 to show medical staff the patient experience in order to help teach compassionate behaviour. This project became nationally known and was featured in Wired magazine and on both ITV and the BBC.
This project also formed the practical backbone for my PhD and my ventures into Immersive Technologies.
In April 2015 Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Torbay Hospital, became the first organisation globally to use virtual reality (VR) for training clinicians in understanding the effect things such as communication, compassion, teamwork, equipment and workspace have on clinical performance and the quality of experience a patient receives.

Digital Futures
Digital Futures - A National Blueprint
The Digital Futures Hub is an innovation program at TSDFT and is an interactive and collaborative space for both the experiential and design thinking of digital healthcare. The Hub provides hands on access and opportunities to new digital tools and technologies, mapped through horizon scanning to national technology trends. This programme acts as a ‘contact’ space for our workforce and partners to explore digital focused workshops, facilitated tutorials & demonstrations and helps to embed technologies focused research, pilots and evaluation, effectively acting as an embedded health and social care focused ‘FabLab’.
The space also begins to enable a blended programme of educational delivery and workforce digital literacy, helping our staff with an understanding of the current and emerging digital technologies landscape and encouraging co-design and interdisciplinary activity of new ideas and digital solutions through links to academia and creative industry.
